Chemical industry
The Turkish chemical industry makes a wide range of products for all manufacturing and service sectors. Petrochemicals is the largest sector, while synthetic fiber production for the textile industry is the biggest exporter. Inorganic bulk chemicals such as soda ash, chromium derivatives, borax etc are also important areas, as are auxiliary chemicals for the textile, leather, pharmaceutical, soaps, detergents, and cosmetics industries.

Chemical exports rank fourth after automotive, textiles and machinery, with 35% going to EU countries. Some 60% of imports come from the EU.

National association
The Turkish Chemical Manufacturers Association, TCMA, has 65 member chemical companies representing about 60% of the total turnover of the Turkish chemical industry. Around 70% of members are SMEs with 10 companies employing less than 10 workers. All members are signatory to the Responsible Care initiative. TCMA works in close cooperation with other national organizations and national sector groups.

One of its main tasks TCMA is to provide professional education and training to the industry on economic and technological issues, involving close cooperation with academic and research organizations.
