Chemical industry
The French chemical industry (excluding pharmaceuticals) is the fifth largest in the world. France is also one of the world’s largest exporters of chemicals with 54.7% of trade going overseas. The chemical industry is the country’s second industrial sector in terms of turnover: €81.2 billion in 2007.  

The industry has nearly 1000 companies 907 companies  with 20 employees and over, employing a total of 190 000 people.

National association
The Union des Industries Chimiques (UIC) is the professional body representing French chemical companies, and is made up of 17 regional associations, 17 sector associations and additional affiliates. As the trade and employer body, UIC operates in various fields of activities, such as social, education, employment, economic, technical, fiscal, legal affairs and communication.
