Chemical industry
The chemical sector in the Philippines has grown into a viable and robust industry; steady growth continues as the national economy develops and the local market for consumer and industrial products expands. There are now over 300 companies in the Philippines engaged in the manufacture of industrial chemicals and chemical products. Over a third are among the country’s top 1,000 corporations. 

In 2006, nearly 38% of output (excluding petrochemicals) valued at over US$ 674 million was exported; imports for the period were valued at US$2.738 billion according to government figures issued in 2008.

National association
The Chemical Industries Association of the Philippines, known as SPIK (Samahan sa Pilipinas ng Industriyang Kimika), was formed in 1977 to address concerns, issues and interests which affect or influence the chemical industry. SPIK has over 60 members from diverse chemical sectors as well as service providers, traders, ISO certifying groups, storage and distribution firms etc.

SPIK represents the chemical industries in various fora with government, non-government organizations, chambers of commerce and other industry associations, both local and foreign. It articulates industry’s concerns ranging from competitiveness, to opportunities in trade, environmental regulations, and policies that will enhance the development of skills among industry players. SPIK assists members achieve competitiveness in the manufacture and trading of quality products in ways that safeguard the environment; proactively addresses government and community concerns, as well as global competitiveness.
