National association
APEQ, the Portuguese Association of Chemical Enterprises, promotes and encourages entrepreneurship to wealth creation and improvement of services to the community, based on a market economy that respects the harmonious and sustainable development of their business, particularly in the socio - economic, health, safety and environmental areas.

Additionally APEQ is an active actor in labor’s collective bargaining for the chemical industry and in the European Social Dialogue, within EC.

APEQ associated companies are an heterogeneous group due to the size and diversity of activities performed, representing 95% of their subsectors in Portugal: our members are companies with more than 100 employees, along with small-scale companies with fewer than 10 employees. One third of the members are SMEs. The share capital of the associated companies is: totally national 41%; totally external 29% and mixed 30%.

In the CEFIC context APEQ integrates RCC – Responsible Care® Forum, whose Responsible Care® Global Charter signed in 2006, AFEM – Assembly of Federations and Associations and is a member of the Build Trust Programme Council.

The role played by APEQ, regarding Responsible Care®, has been very relevant: among other important events, the activity of PACOPAR - “A Multi Company Advisory Panel, with and within local Community” has been recognized by CEFIC as an outstanding example from the Chemical industry in Europe demonstrating an innovative approach concerning the Community, and won the first “European Responsible Care® Award - 2005”.
