How we're structured

ICCA is governed by a Board of Directors representing member associations and a Steering Committee responsible for oversight of several working level groups. ICCA is a virtual organisation, coordinating the work of individuals from member associations and their member companies. The Board of Directors is led by a President, the private sector CEO who chairs the association currently serving as the ICCA Secretariat. The Secretariat function, which rotates among the major associations, is led by a Council Secretary, who chairs the Steering Committee, and is the head of the association currently serving as Secretariat.

Chemical Policy & Health

The Chemical Policy & Health (CP&H) Leadership Group directs global industry implementation of the ICCA’s Global Product Strategy and drives improved product stewardship in close cooperation with the Responsible Care Leadership Group.

It provides outreach, guidance and support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and smaller chemical associations, and delivers content for ICCA advocacy and communications to key stakeholders, especially IGOs and NGOs. The CP&H LG is leading ICCA’s efforts to improve risk assessment, risk management and transparency throughout the global industry, and by 2020 aims to have:

  • Established a base set of hazard and exposure information per substance and to conduct safety assessments for chemicals in commerce
  • Provided global capacity building to implement best assessment practices and management procedures, especially with SMEs and in developing countries
  • Shared relevant product safety information with co-producers, governments and the public
  • Worked across the value chain so suppliers and customers can effectively evaluate risk and enhance their performance
  • Made information on chemicals publicly available (GPS IT-portal via http://www.icca-chem.org/)

Four taskforces are working to achieve these objectives. They cover Information Gathering & Sharing to improve risk assessment and risk management; Advocacy, to develop and implement strategy with key governments, IGOs and other stakeholders; Performance Monitoring & Reporting, to develop and monitor key performance indicators and milestones to measure progress; and Capacity Building to provide outreach to SMEs and associations in developing countries.
