Global Chemical Industry hosts Roundtable on Product Stewardship at ICCM-2

ICCA President Addresses Plenary Session

  Brussels, Washington, DC, 4 May 2009 -- On Thursday, May 14, at the upcoming Second Session of the International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM-2) in Geneva, the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) will host a multi-stakeholder roundtable discussion on the achievements under SAICM. The roundtable will feature speakers from leading intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations and the chemical industry. In conjunction with the event, ICCA will issue its report on the industry’s product stewardship progress since ICCM-1 in 2006. (That report will be available at www.icca-chem.org on May 8).

Earlier on May 14, ICCA President Christian Jourquin, CEO of Solvay, will address the ICCM-2 Plenary Session. Mr. Jourquin and other leaders of the chemical industry will be available for interviews throughout the day and after the Roundtable. The Roundtable and Plenary address are two of several events where ICCA will join with other stakeholders to discuss progress on key issues and plan for the future. ICCA’s schedule follows below. All listed events are open to the media and ICCA will work with journalists to arrange interviews.

 

Wednesday, May 13
6-8 PM        ICCA hosts a panel discussion on “Modalities of SAICM
                  Reporting”
 moderated by Dr. Franz Xaver Perrez of the Swiss
                  Federal Office for the Environment. The panel will be preceded by a 
                  welcoming reception. (Location still TBD.)

Thursday, May 14
2:15-3:45 PM ICCA Secretary Alain Perroy (Director General of CEFIC)
                     participates in the High Level Roundtable on Finance. Level
                     1/Room

1 4-5 PM      ICCA President Christian Jourquin joins ministers and heads of
                    delegation in addressing the Plenary Session. Level 0/Room 2

5-6 PM          Mr. Jourquin participates in the Quick Start Award Ceremony
                      Level 0/Room 2

6-8 PM          ICCA sponsors the Roundtable Discussion on working together to  
                    achieve the vision of the World Summit on Sustainable Development
                    and SAICM success. Moderator: Alan Webber, author and 
                     journalist. Participants include IGO, NGO and industry leaders:

                     Weidman, Celanese; David Kepler, Dow; Joe DiGangi, EHF; Tetsuo
