Responsible Care® : A Commitment to Performance Excellence

ICCA makes commitment to UNEA-3 to expand its Responsible Care program to combat pollution

At the third UN Environment Assembly (UNEA) meeting taking place this week, ICCA will make a commitment to combat pollution by expanding its Responsible Care program to continuously reduce emissions and increase global capacity to manage chemicals safely.

UNEA-3, held in Nairobi from 4-6 December under the theme “Towards a pollution-free planet”, has called on governments, businesses, civil society organizations, and other interested groups or institutions to join the fight against pollution.

ICCA is making its commitment on behalf of the global chemical industry. It recognizes that, as part of our everyday lives, chemistry is essential for sustainable development – and to realize the benefits of chemistry, we must handle chemicals safely.

ICCA promotes RC to continuously improve the implementation of sound chemicals management […]

Responsible Care Global Charter

Pakistan Chemical Manufacturers Association and Croatian Chemical Industry Association Commit to Responsible Care

The Responsible Care Leadership Group (RCLG) welcomed two new national chemical associations, in Pakistan and Croatia, at its biannual meeting in March in Berlin.

Abrar Ahmed, Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Chemical Manufacturers Association (PCMA), welcomed the RCLG’s decision and said PCMA “has achieved this milestone in a remarkably short timeframe.”

To date, 11 large Pakistani chemical companies have signed on to both the Global Charter and the Responsible Care Declaration of Support, with others expected to follow in the near future; implementation is under way at four companies, and PCMA has targeted three for independent verification by the year end. PCMA’s verification system is based on the American Chemistry Council’s RC14001 approach.

In terms of capacity building, the association plans workshops throughout […]

Strengthening Responsible Care brand

Although the Responsible Care brand is well-known and respected as a concept, the actual knowledge about what the initiative is and what it offers could be further strengthened, notably within international bodies such as UN Environment. Obviously, the current state of communications about the program is insufficient in providing key stakeholders a practical understanding of the initiative, in particular what it requires companies to do and how the initiative drives continuous improvement and excellence throughout the global chemical industry in the key performance areas of process safety, occupational safety, environmental protection, security, community outreach, safe chemicals transport and product stewardship.

GPCA extends Responsible Care® to Logistics Service Providers (LSP)

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, April 27, 2017: In line with its efforts to support the sustainable development of the chemical and petrochemical industry in the Arabian Gulf, the Dubai-based Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) has launched Responsible Care® for chemical and petrochemical Logistics Service Providers (LSP) in the region.

The decision follows leading examples from developed nations, and is underpinned by the significant contribution of Responsible Care® to the manufacturing sector globally and within the GCC.

In 2014, GPCA continued to lead the sustainability efforts in the region. In line with its aspirations to further contribute to raising the industry’s standards, the association lunched the SQAS program across the GCC to promote supply chain efficiency, flexibility and transparency in the petrochemical […]

French chemical industry association UIC hosts 3rd annual Responsible Care® awards

The French chemical industry association Union des Industries Chimique (UIC) hosted its third biennial Responsible Care Awards on May 26, back to back with the General Assembly.

The main purpose of the awards is to give visibility to the Responsible Care initiative and go beyond the key performance indicators (KPIs). They enable to illustrate the progress carried out by our member companies in the field of health, safety and environment protection.

This third edition showed the maturity of the initiative. Responsible Care awards are now well established and all the member companies do participate, from the smallest (10 employees, turnover of 1.3 million €) to the biggest (>1000 000 employees, turnover of 75 billions €).
